Bowiea volubilis (Climbing Onion)

A rare species, in culture and in habitat, which is quite unique. It forms large, green bulbs on the soil surface, which can reach a diameter of 20 cm. The bulbs produce a fine network of climbing stems during summer, which die down during winter. They occur in the moister eastern regions of SA, can handle ample watering during summer. Best grown with the bulbs in shade, allowing the stems to climb into sunnier areas. Plants are seed grown, the bulbs having a diameter of approximately 3 cm.
